The Moving Experiment from the Future

The Moving Experiment from the Future

The Vollebak Spaceshop looks like a weathered vehicle that has rolled straight out of a sci-fi film. Fitted with advanced Bang & Olufsen speakers and glowing with LED light, Spaceshop transforms into a stage for Vollebak’s experimental garments.

Inside the Spaceshop

Weighing more than a ton and featuring anodized aluminium, carbon, and stainless steel for the structure, Spaceshop is both a physical pop-up store and a concept. It reimagines product display and distribution, moving beyond fixed storefronts and online platforms.

The structure is fitted with advanced sound systems from Bang & Olufsen: four Beolab 5 speakers at the rear and four Beosound 2 anodized speakers at the front, capable of reaching the volume of a jet engine. LED light pours from within, while the anodized panels flip open to reveal Vollebak’s experimental garments and technology.

The result is not a conventional shop but a place where material, sound, and design merge into an immersive experience. Visitors can walk right up to the craft, and encounter objects in a setting that feels closer to a space mission than a high street.

Drawing From Space Architecture

For us, Spaceshop is a chance to test the same principles we use for designing habitats beyond Earth, where every fold, material, and function must earn its place. Spaceshop may house jackets and speakers rather than astronauts, but the challenge is the same: making compact, mobile structures that are both functional and emotionally engaging.

Making of the Spaceshop

What next?

Unveiled in Copenhagen, Spaceshop is going to tour major cities around the world as a roving pop up store. Wherever it goes, it carries with it a question that extends beyond retail: what will our environments look like when they are no longer fixed, but mobile, adaptive, and built for extremes?

During the building of the Spaceshop, Vollebak filmed a movie that captures the whole project and the making of Vollebak Spaceshop. You can watch it here.
